Pixel art for game assets

Build a matching set that fits the place you will use it.

Start with artwork you have permission to use. These plant and sailboat images are original project artwork, converted by the same processing code as the tools. They are practical static prototype assets; inspect and refine the result before using it in your game.

1. Decide the native size first

A larger export repeats native pixels; it does not add detail. Keep 1× PNGs for asset files. In your drawing or game tool, open the native file and check its dimensions; use nearest-neighbor or equivalent pixel filtering with integer display scales.

2. Keep one palette across the set

The two files above use the same 16-color PICO-8 palette. In the batch converter, choose a fixed or saved palette, or select From image to extract one palette from the entire group. Every image maps to that same final palette. Separate per-image extraction would produce different color sets.

3. Inspect transparent edges at native resolution

Fit adds transparent padding and preserves existing alpha. The plant also has a partially transparent shadow. Use the pixel editor to erase stray pixels or clean the silhouette. The eraser writes transparent pixels, and undo restores the original values. In a batch, brush colors stay within the shared palette.

4. See the actual files placed in an interface

These inventory and scene cards use the native PNG files above, displayed at exactly 4× with pixel-preserving rendering. The plant's transparent background lets the card color show through. Compare light and dark backgrounds to inspect the edge and shadow.

5. Reuse the rules, then refine

Convert one image, save a named conversion preset, and choose Use these settings for more images. That action brings the source, native size, crop, dithering and final palette into the batch converter. Refine an individual result and apply edits back to the batch before downloading the ZIP. Presets are separate from saved palettes: a palette saves colors, a conversion preset saves all processing rules and export scale.

Working images and edits stay in this tab's memory and are cleared on refresh. Download results before leaving. Named palettes and presets are saved locally in this browser; export files for a portable copy.
